Instagram automation stopped working: reconnect safely
Find the failed step, renew Instagram access when needed, and test a fresh request. Reconnecting doesn't guarantee delivery of old messages.
Find the step that failed
A missing greeting, a button that doesn't deliver the resource, and a file that won't open need different checks. Reconnecting won't fix every case.
Check that the flow is saved, enabled, and uses the right keyword and channel. A Comments flow won't necessarily start from a DM.
Use a fresh request from another consenting account; Sayw ignores the creator's own comments. Repeat-event handling and repeat-request limits can affect repeated tests. Record the time and exact step where the result differed from what you expected.
| Symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| No greeting | Status, channel, keyword and connection notice |
| Button doesn't deliver | Saved delivery format and message |
| Link requests access | File permissions in your storage service |
Check the connection message
Sayw needs Instagram permissions for your connected professional account. Expired access needs renewed authorization, but one failed message doesn't prove the connection is lost.
Follow the specific hint about expired access, missing permissions, or a temporary connection problem. Fix a wrong keyword in the flow or check file access if only the resource fails to open.
Sending still depends on the person's initiating action and Instagram's limits. A connected account can't message anyone at any time.
Renew access without deleting your workspace
If a recovery screen replaces the workspace, use “Reconnect Instagram” there; other sections may be blocked. If the workspace is still accessible, open “Account” and choose “Refresh Instagram permissions.”
On the official authorization screen, check the Instagram profile, especially if you use several. Review the requested permissions and finish connecting. Enter passwords and verification codes only on Instagram's official screen; never give them to support or another person.
Don't use “Disconnect and erase” for recovery. It revokes Instagram access and removes your settings and local workspace data.
If authorization was canceled or failed, read the message before retrying. Contact support if the error keeps returning.
Old messages may still be undeliverable
Some unfinished Sayw events can wait for reconnection. Once access returns, Sayw checks whether processing can resume against the original expiry, current automation state, and steps already completed.
Reconnecting doesn't restart that deadline. An expired message doesn't become eligible to send again.
Don't delete and recreate flows to force the queue, or manually resend every old reply. Some steps may already have finished. Check the state of a specific missed request first.
Run a fresh test and save the error details
Confirm you're back in the correct workspace with your settings. Test a new comment or DM through the greeting, recipient action, resource delivery, and link opening. Renewed access alone doesn't prove delivery works, and a fresh test doesn't settle what happened to older events.
If it fails, send support the test time and time zone, automation name, channel, expected result, and exact error or screenshot. Hide unrelated personal details, conversations, and other clients' information. Never share passwords, login codes, or access keys.
